Browse file system hierarchies as a tree

TreeRoot is a macOS app that turns your file system into an interactive tree. Instead of scrolling through flat lists, you see folders and files as a visual hierarchy you can explore, zoom, and navigate.

Choose any folder as the root, set how deep to scan, and TreeRoot builds a spatial map of your structure. Folders appear as nodes, connected by lines you can style as curved, straight, or hierarchical. Each node shows how many items it contains, and color-coded density highlights crowded folders so you can quickly spot where your data is concentrated.

The layout adapts to your workflow: top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top, left-to-right, or right-to-left. You can tweak line color and thickness, adjust how “crowded” a folder must be to turn red, and choose whether to include package-like folders such as apps and bundles. Click a folder to open a popover with its contents, sort by name, size, or date, preview files with Quick Look, and open items in Finder or directly in the app.

TreeRoot helps you understand how your disk is organized, find large or dense areas, and move through your hierarchy without getting lost in nested folders. It’s built for anyone who wants to see and navigate their file system as a clear, visual map.
