Tutorial for RemoteSupervisor

This guide will help you set up RemoteSupervisor to remotely access your Mac computers. RemoteSupervisor is designed to be simple and secure, with no complex networking configuration required. RemoteSupervisor consists of two applications that work together:

 

1. RemoteSupervisor - The client app that you use to control other computers. Install this on the Mac you will be working from (like your laptop or main computer).

2. RemoteSupervisorAgent - The background app that runs on computers you want to monitor or control. Install this on each Mac you want to access remotely.

 

Part 1: Installing RemoteSupervisorAgent

Follow these steps on each Mac computer you want to monitor or control remotely.

 

Step 1: Download RemoteSupervisorAgent

1. On the computer you want to monitor, download RemoteSupervisorAgent from:

   https://download.elonovo.com/RemoteSupervisorAgent.dmg

2. The file is completely free and does not require a license.

 

Step 2: Install the Application

1. Double-click the downloaded DMG file to open it.

2. Drag the RemoteSupervisorAgent icon into your Applications folder.

3. Eject the DMG file by dragging it to the Trash or clicking the Eject button in Finder.

4. Open your Applications folder and double-click RemoteSupervisorAgent to launch it.

 

Step 3: Grant Required Permissions

When you first launch RemoteSupervisorAgent, macOS will ask for several permissions. These are essential for remote access to work properly.

 

Screen Recording Permission

This allows RemoteSupervisor to capture and share your screen during remote sessions.

1. When prompted, click "Open System Settings".

2. In System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, then Screen Recording.

3. Find RemoteSupervisorAgent in the list and turn it ON.

4. If you don't see RemoteSupervisorAgent, click the + button to add it from your Applications folder.

 

Accessibility Permission

This allows remote users to control your mouse and keyboard.

1. Go to System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Accessibility.

2. Find RemoteSupervisorAgent in the list and turn it ON.

3. If you don't see it, click the + button to add it.

4. You may need to enter your Mac password to make changes.

 

Important: After granting these permissions, you may need to restart RemoteSupervisorAgent for the changes to take effect.

 

Step 4: Start the Remote Service

1. In RemoteSupervisorAgent's main window, click the "Start Agent" button.

2. You should see a message saying "Remote service running on port 5905".

3. The agent icon will appear in your menu bar at the top of the screen.

4. Your computer is now ready to accept remote connections.

 

Step 5: Configure Auto-Start (Optional but Recommended)

To ensure the agent is always available for remote access:

1. In Settings, enable "Start Agent Automatically at Launch".

2. Enable "Open at Login" to launch the agent when your Mac starts up.

Part 2: Connecting from RemoteSupervisor

Now that RemoteSupervisorAgent is running on the computer you want to monitor, you can connect to it from another Mac using the RemoteSupervisor client.

 

Step 1: Launch RemoteSupervisor

1. Open the RemoteSupervisor application on your control computer.

2. The app will automatically discover computers running RemoteSupervisorAgent on your local network.

 

Step 2: Automatic Discovery

RemoteSupervisor uses Bonjour technology to automatically find available computers:

1. Available computers will appear in the main window with their computer names.

2. You will see a live preview thumbnail showing what's currently on their screens.

3. Click on any computer to connect to it.

 

Step 3: Manual Connection (If Automatic Discovery Doesn't Work)

If your computer doesn't appear automatically:

1. Click the "+" button or "Add Computer Manually" option.

2. Enter the IP address of the computer running RemoteSupervisorAgent.

3. You can find the IP address in RemoteSupervisorAgent's window or in System Settings under Network.

4. Click "Connect".

 

Step 4: Authenticate

1. When connecting, you'll be prompted to enter credentials.

2. Enter the username and password of your remote computer (system credentials)

3. Click "Connect" to establish the connection.

 

Step 5: Control the Remote Computer

Once connected, you will see the remote computer's screen:

Use your mouse and keyboard normally to control the remote computer.

The screen updates in real-time with minimal delay.

You can transfer files by dragging and dropping them into the remote session.

Use the toolbar at the top to adjust quality settings or disconnect.
